Rice is a cereal grain. It is a main food for a large part of the world, especially in Asia. After maize it is the grain with the second-highest worldwide production. Rice cultivation is well-suited to countries with low labor costs and high rainfall. Varities of rice are long-, medium- and short-grain rice.

Top producers are China, India, Indonesia, Bangladesh and Vietnam, followed by Burma and Thailand.
